Coco-Nuts!

We all know that these days more and more people are willing to earn a buck by dressing up in some big flashy costume and handing out free stuff for some company. And the companies are equally willing to do these types of promotions, because they are relatively cheap and usually quite effective.

I’ve never seen this likes of this one, though. Meet Coconut Man, whose head has been split in two and doesn’t appear to have any reasonable way of seeing out of his costume. I guess he has assistants handing out the a.o. candy bars, but I still would think they might lose some customers when their blind costumed representative stumbles into a crowd.

I did think it was a creative tactic to have a bed nearby. Not only does this allow Mr. Coconut to go from lying-down-and-innocuous to up-and-in-your-face to attract crowds, but I could also see him striking some suggestive poses. Coconut candy bars are just so hot right now, you know?

Funny shark week promo

Shark Week is over…but I keep finding funny promotions that I simply can’t ignore. Check out this very unique ambient promotion seen in New York City in July. This guy’s pedicab was outfitted with a shark-like exterior that made it look like the ferocious beast was hot on his heels wherever he pedaled! This is one of those promotions that explore the uncharted territories of guerrilla advertising and promotions - my guess is that it generated tons of great exposure in the Big Apple. How is your company using funny promotional products to create big-time buzz?

In a really remarkable - and really amusing - outdoor promotion for The Simpsons Movie, a giant Homer Simpson holding a donut joined the paleolithic cerne abbas giant on a field in England.

Okay, so I’m getting a little off track already by featuring another billboard, but this is pretty funny. Apparently it was done by some freelance guerrilla marketers (some call them hoodlums, I usually just refer to them as teenagers). They do have a point though.

I would imagine this was financed and designed by someone more…mortal? But still, quite amusing. I guess this must be promoting religion in a refreshingly irreverent way. But what does God have against ending a sentence in a period?
