Cavities? in MY Bus Ticket?

September 15th, 2009

Seeking to promote their anti-cavity toothpaste in Israel, Elmex needed to catch the customer’s eye in a way that hadn’t been done before. They teamed up with the country’s primary bus company on an entire year’s supply of season bus tickets, printing one side with the normal ticket information and graphics and the other side with a set of teeth so that the ticket eventually filled up with cavities!

The idea is certainly eye-catching, though if the toothpaste prevents cavities, shouldn’t holes be disappearing? Maybe there should be a candy bar in the middle instead…

Heinz USB Mini-Microwave?

August 7th, 2009

dailymail.co.uk

Heinz has now brought the food processing industry to the office, smack on top of your workdesk. Heinz’s Beanzawave is the world’s smallest, portable microwave and powered by a Heinz custom USB port. It stands 7.4 inches tall by 6.2 inches wide and 5.9 inches deep. As of now, it’s just a prototype but can be purchased for around $160. The mini-microwave allows people to quickly heat up a snack or drink to get them through the day. The product was designed by microwave expert Gordon Andrews and Stephen Frazer, an authority on industrial design and managng director of Frazer Designers. The key tro the microwave is the combination of mobile phone radio frequencies to create the heat to cook both on the outside and inside within a minute. Hopefully these guys keep this product patented for a while, for their sake anyway.

Making Coffee Fun

July 7th, 2009

In Tampa Bay, Florida, Dunkin Donuts was able to attract the attention of residents with its “Free Iced Coffee Day.” Not only did a van stocked with iced coffees drive throughout the area all day, but it gave every customer a set of other fun Dunkin Donuts products with each coffee, including promotional t-shirts and stick-on tattoos. To top it off, each iced coffee was served by Dunkin Donuts’ promotional mascot Cuppy. Instead of giving away imprinted coffee mugs, Dunkin Donuts was able to initiate more engaging PR activities which aided lifestyle reporters and business writers to ensure full coverage of the event.

Time to Snack with Bumblebee

July 6th, 2009

Upon the recent release of the new Transformers movie, M & M’s and Snickers have decided to give their products a new look and taste to intrigue fans of the film. M & M’s has suited up its mascot twins in transformer armor and is now selling strawberried peanut butter M & M’s, a snack which puts peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to shame. On the flipside, Snickers has been selling its mini bars with a yellow nougat inside in honor of the transformer character Bumblebee. Imprinted promotional products such as these are awesome because they feature identifiable mascots and characters, and who doesn’t appreciate some promotional candy every so often?

Go Big or Go Home

June 15th, 2009

Over the past few months, Snickers has been running a global promotional campaign to promote its candy bar. The spokesman is the one and only Mr. T. For a limited time, candy goers can get a Snickers Mr. T. promotional chain by visiting heyuguys.co.uk. and the Mr. T Snickers facebook page. The Giant Faux Mr. T Bling Gold Chain certainly represents the bling-bling of custom jewelry, and it will be interesting to see if the campaign starts to give out any Snickers promotional t-shirts with the ferocious Mr. T plastered on the front.

Making Leftovers Fun

June 5th, 2009

It’s always better to give consumers promotional products that makes life easier.  That’s why Maggiano’s Little Italy, an Italian restaurant in Philadelphia, has started putting their customers’ leftovers in reusable aluminum pans with reheating instructions on them. The pans are more durable than many of the aluminum containers that most restaurants use to store leftovers.

This is an excellent way to increase customer lifetime value: more consumers are likely to return to the restaurant if reheating leftovers becomes an even easier process. Durable promotional products and custom reusable products are great tools for marketing campaigns, especially if they are clever items that competitors haven’t thought of yet.

Kit Kat Bench

January 12th, 2009

I never knew a bench could look so delicious!

This was a great way for Kit Kat to promote candy through guerrilla marketing because not only does the bench emulate a smooth milk chocolaty candy bar, but the promotion is large enough for people to notice.

I wonder if they had anything written on the back of the bench for when the front of fully obstructed.

Great job!

Coco-Nuts!

October 30th, 2008

We all know that these days more and more people are willing to earn a buck by dressing up in some big flashy costume and handing out free stuff for some company. And the companies are equally willing to do these types of promotions, because they are relatively cheap and usually quite effective.

I’ve never seen this likes of this one, though. Meet Coconut Man, whose head has been split in two and doesn’t appear to have any reasonable way of seeing out of his costume. I guess he has assistants handing out the a.o. candy bars, but I still would think they might lose some customers when their blind costumed representative stumbles into a crowd.

I did think it was a creative tactic to have a bed nearby. Not only does this allow Mr. Coconut to go from lying-down-and-innocuous to up-and-in-your-face to attract crowds, but I could also see him striking some suggestive poses. Coconut candy bars are just so hot right now, you know?

Another Beer Promo: Guinness Coaster

August 14th, 2008

Here is another really cool beer promo. What better way to promote a beer then with a typical item that is used at bars and restaurants all the time. This promotional coaster was used in a unique way, by having the image written backwards and then incorporating the reflection from a glass. This mirror image creates a really interesting promo.
